Cash prizes, beginning at $300.00 for first place, are awarded in four categories: Short Stories, Personal Essay/Memoirs, Poetry, and Short Stories for Children Ages 6 – 12. The winner in the Short Stories for Children category also receives the Michael LaCapa Award; in addition, winning entries are printed in The Story Teller, published annually by the SSA.
Full contest details and entry forms are available at the Society’s website: www.ssa-az.org, or by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to 2009 SSA Writing Contest, Entry Forms Department, PO Box 35484, Tucson, AZ 85740-5484.

“Self-publishing is one of the fasting growing segments of the publishing industry, and the time is ripe to have a place where these authors can interact with the public, mingle with their peers, meet representatives of the media who are otherwise unfamiliar with their work, and expose their books to a much broader audience.”
The first SPBE will be held in New York City on Saturday, November 7. Mancher and Mender said they hope to hold the event annually. Authors may register at www.selfpubbookexpo.com, the fee is $275.
