Mark Travis’ THE ACTOR’S BOOTCAMP
The Actor’s Bootcamp, formerly titled The Workshop from Hell, is a total immersion into the craft of acting, and provides actors with training that prepares them for script analysis and character development along with a variety of techniques that can bring the actor closer to the physical and emotional truth of the character. Skilled actors will learn how to make weak material work, how to direct themselves and even how to direct others (their scene partners) in an appropriate and non-threatening manner. !
Workshop will be at the Clarendon Inn in Phoenix Arizona, 3rd ave and Clarendon. Get together will be Saturday night on the rooftop at the Clarendon Inn following Saturday’s session.
The Actor’s Boot Camp covers:
- Script analysis (from a director’s point of view)
- Character design and definition (from limited material)
- Creating objectives and obstacles that enhance the scene
- Staging and self-staging in order to stimulate your character and others
- Communication skills with directors and actors that are non-threatening
- Audition techniques that generate immediate results
- The Actor/Character Split
- The Actor/Character Meld
- The collaborative process between directors, actors and the script
As a director, Mark’s critically acclaimed theatre productions have garnered over 30 awards. He has served as Creative Consultant on multiple award-winning feature films an d television shows, including Men of Honor, The Day Reagan was Shot, The Stoning of Saroya M, NYPD Blue, Melrose Place, Ally Macbeal, The Practice, and Picket Fences. He is the author of the #1 best-selling book, The Director’s Journey: The Creative Collaboration Between Director’s, Writer’s, and Actors. And his second book, Directing Feature Films, is currently used as required text in film schools worldwide.
Both actors and directors are encouraged to observe as well! Observers will be able to watch the entire process and participate in the discussions, Q & A, etc. This is a very valuable experience.
Cost: $300 for participating actors ($275 for IFP/PHX members), $100 for actors and directors who would like to observe for the full weekend, and $50 to observe for one day.
Workshop will take place on Friday, March 5 from 6-9, Saturday March 6 from 9-6 and Sunday March 7 from 9-6.
