Act  Without Words

by Samuel Beckett

February 25 – March 14, 2010

Samuel Beckett is an icon of 20th century theatre. He was awarded the 1969 Nobel Prize for Literature for a worldview that reaches “the utmost bounds of suffering to discover that compassion has no bounds.” This evening of short plays offers three darkly comic journeys into the poetic and ironic world of one of Ireland’s greatest writers.

Dear Friends–

Samuel Beckett is a feast for the mind.  But not the reasoning mind that we use to steer us through the everyday world.  He touches something in us more primal, more mysterious, more wonderful.  Exploring his world of eccentric characters, absurd situations and darkly comic words has been quite a powerful experience for us in rehearsals.  Though the dilemmas in which his characters find themselves embroiled are often extreme and ridiculous, they represent very real questions for us as human beings and make us empathize with their struggles–often as we’re laughing at their situation.

Please join us for these three very different looks at the work of Samuel Beckett and for what we know will be some rousing post-show discussions.
