Abingdon Theatre Company- Deus ex machina

New Short Play By Abingdon’s Artistic Director Jan Buttram

Deus ex machina is a Latin term meaning “god from the machine.” A common convention in ancient Greek and Roman theatre, the term refers to the moment in a play when an unexpected force, such as a god or a new character, enters the story and dramatically changes the play’s final outcome.

In ancient Greek plays, the deus ex machina was often a mechanical crane that lifted characters onto or off of the stage at a pivotal moment, often saving them from a tragic end.

In modern-day non-profit theatre, donors like you are the deus ex machina, contributing gifts that surpass our expectations! Your donation could be the deus ex machina that miraculously lifts us above our holiday fundraising goal!
