Summer reading program offers prizes for kids and adults.
Programs are open to children, teens, and adults. Prizes, including passes to the Reid Park Zoo and Breakers Water Park, are awarded each time a certain number of hours are spent reading.
“Studies have shown that students can lose considerable ground during the summer if they don’t continue reading, and it is our goal that students continue reading through the summer and maintain or improve their reading level,” said Library Services Manger Amber Mathewson.
Last summer nearly 40,000 participants read hundreds of thousands of hours, she said. Children and teens keep track of their hours on a game board or booklet or online at the library’s website. Adults can also log their time online as well as write book reviews.
Free workshops, presentations and performances will be held at various library locations in conjunction with the summer reading program.
The program ends July 23, 2011.
