Playwrights Foundation Hits Manhattan!
It’s an exciting Fall for PF as Artistic Director Amy Mueller heads to New York with Resident Playwright Christopher Chen and Marissa Wolf of Crowded Fire Theater for a workshop of Chen’s new play, The Hundred Flowers Project, at the Lark Play Development Center. There is an invited rehearsal on Wednesday, September 28 at 6pm. Please contact Amy Mueller for an invitation at amy@playwrightsfoundation.org
Adriana Baer directs the piece, which examines the reign of Mao Tse-Tung and its effect on modern day China through the lens of an American theater ensemble who engage in the making of an epic piece about the Cultural Revolution. The project is a partnership with Crowded Fire Theater, which will host the premiere of Chen’s play in October 2012 in San Francisco. The Lark workshop is made possible through the Sister City Playwrights Exchange program at PF, which provides funding for playwrights to travel to new regions in order to strengthen the development of their work.
Also on the itinerary is celebrating the opening of alumni playwright Katori Hall’s play THE MOUNTAINTOP, featured in the 2008 Bay Area Playwrights Festival. The controversial script, which imagines Martin Luther King, Jr. on the night before his assassination, opens on Broadway October 13th, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Basset. Congratulations, Katori!
