CONCIERTO PARA SORDOS
by Matia Montes-Huidobro
In Spanish. This unconvential work expands narrative space to unaccustomed limits, evoking a dance of death against the backdrop of monumental necropolis of Havana, the Cementerio de Colon. The reader journeys from Cuba’s indigenous colonial past through its Afro-Cuban components to the confrontation with contemporary history, while the protagonist suffers a Cuban version of the Kafkian paradox; he is pursued by a monstrous creature that represents both the individual and the collective being.
