Impact Theatre. Pizza. Beer. Plays.

This time around, the milieu is the seediest fortune-telling den in Chinatown, where our intrepid team will show us how mystics do that voodoo they do so well.  There are so many songs and stories that they can’t all fit into one evening, so the audience chooses the set list, playing games and winning prizes, and it’s never the same show twice.

Imagine if David Sedaris joined forces with Warren Zevon and then they took over This American Life and turned it into a game show. It’s even better than that.

In neglected neighborhoods of a fictional city lies Scarlett, a woman who takes care of her grandmother by pulling wild animals out of her ears. She makes her living as best she can off of the dreams and desires of married men who are willing to sacrifice everything for her.
Drumhead, a lonely morgue worker with a wild imagination, comes across a carnival poster boasting of the wonders of Scarlett and can’t get her out of his head.

Krispy Kritters in the Scarlett Night follows these seeming misfits on their journey towards each other.

San Francisco Theater Pub
Make it good, keep it casual, have a beer
Join THE PUB FROM ANOTHER WORLD, an inter-dimensional crossroads where theater is not bound by the constraints of reality. It is a world where time travel is possible, where unicorns exist. From the minds of eight Bay Area playwrights—including a four-year-old girl (daughter of PF Associate Producer Rachel Bublitz) featured on Boing Boing —come imaginative tales of everything from superheroes to surrogates, monsters to mad scientists, and other flights of fancy.
This one night of staged readings will be Monday, May 20, at 8 PM at the Cafe Royale. Admission is FREE and no reservations are required for this journey, but we recommend you come early for the best seats.
Hyde Away Blues BBQ will provide food for all human guests.

Playwrights Foundation- Three Chances to Hang Out With Playwrights Foundation- Rough Reading of Keith Josef Adkins’ THE FINAL DAYS OF NEGRO-VILLE & Live-Streamed performance of the Chicago One Minute Play Festival

Three Chances to Hang Out With Playwrights Foundation

Our next ROUGH Reading is next week, and we’re delighted to bring Keith Josef Adkins and his new play THE FINAL DAYS OF NEGRO-VILLE to the Bay Area! The reading is directed by Edris Cooper Anifowoshe.

We hope you can make it! There are two chances:

Monday, April 16th, 2012 @ 7:30pm, Stanford University
Tuesday, April 17th, 2012 @ 7pm, Thick House, SF

Readings are free with a suggested donation of $10.

About the Play
Cornell Gates is a charming, Ivy-educated mayor of an all-black upper middle class community. However, when the recession hits Mayor Gates finds him struggling to manage spoiled debutantes, irksome interns, and a community unwilling to forfeit a night without organic food and Bikram Yoga. This hilarious new play takes a jab at black folks with money.

About the Playwright
Keith Josef Adkins plays include Sweet Home (2012 production by MPAACT Theater in Chicago), Sugar and Needles (2012 Sunshine Series at Epic Theater – NYC), The Final Days of Negro-ville (July 2011 Represent Festival at A.C.T. – Seattle), The Last Saint on Sugar Hill (2011 production MPAACT), The Dangerous, a commission from The Public Theater, Safe House, and Pitbulls, among others.

Can’t make the Rough Reading, but still want to get in some Real Live Theater?

Playwrights Foundation will be hosting a Live-Streamed performance of the Chicago One Minute Play Festival!

The One Minute Play Festival was started in New York by Dominic D’Andrea back in the year 2007. Since then, the One Minute Play Festival has graced cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, New Jersey and San Francisco! It’s live theater pushed to extremes, where you never know just what will happen in those 60 seconds.

Playwrights Foundation brings the Chicago playwrights and their work to a San Francisco audience at our home, 1616 16th St, Ste 350. San Francisco
Bring a friend, bring a snack, bring yourself!
Show starts at 5:30 so come a little early to grab a seat, or rsvp to rsvp@playwrightsfoundation.org

Magic Theatre in Danger of Closing
Donate now to save this great new play theatre!

The Magic, a preeminent theatre devoted to the production of new plays, has announced that it needs to raise $350,000 by January 9th to avoid closure. The Magic Theatre’s survival is essential to maintain the Bay Area as a vital home for new work. Its closure would be a devastating blow to new plays, locally and nationally.
