The Rogue Theatre- Wins the American Theatre Wing National Theatre Award

The Rogue Theatre- Wins the American Theatre Wing National Theatre Award

300 East University Boulevard, Tucson, AZ – 520-551-2053 – http://www.TheRogueTheatre.org

New York City holds a special place in the heart of any theatre lover. Many of us saw our first fully professional play on stage in a Broadway house. So, it was fitting that Joe and I traveled to New York City to receive the American Theatre Wing National Theatre Award on behalf of The Rogue Theatre.

We flew in Sunday night and at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, we met with the other nine recipients of the award and several members of the American Theatre Wing staff. We learned that the other regional companies, from Pasadena to Boston, have similar joys and challenges as The Rogue. The discussion was lively and we brought home many ideas that we will develop in the months ahead.

At lunch, we met Patty Gallagher, who took the bus from Washington D.C., where she’s currently working at the Folger Theatre. Then we went to the TV studios of City University of New York, where all ten Artistic Directors taped a show of “Working in the Theatre” with Donna Hanover (the former wife of Rudi Guiliani).

Next, we headed over to the first floor of the Empire State Building, where there was a cocktail reception and we received our awards. Several members of the American Theatre Wing Board were there, including Lucie Arnaz (who is the head of the award selection committee) and William Ivey Long who is a self-described “fabulously famous costume designer on Broadway.” We talked with both of them and enjoyed further conversations with the other theatre companies.

We rounded out the day with a walk to the Lincoln Center and a visit to the Juilliard School where Joe studied many years ago. The day ended with a lovely meal prepared for us by Rogue Board Member Ellen Bodow (complete with New York cheesecake) and we had a champagne toast to The Rogue.

It was a fantastic day with a lovely ending. We wish all of you could have been there with us, but of course you were in spirit!

Thank you for your partnership and your support which made this very special experience and recognition possible.

Sincerely,
Cindy Meier
Managing and Associate Artistic Director

Christian Youth Theater Tucson- launching a Tour Group for 2012-2013 & other exciting opportunities

Christian Youth Theater Tucson- Calling all CYT students ages 8-18!

CYT has a couple exciting opportunities for you opening up this fall.
FIRST……

CYT is launching a Tour Group for 2012-2013. Tour Group students will have the opportunity of performing at a variety of venues in the Tucson metro area to help raise awareness of our program as well as to entertain.

You do not need to be enrolled in a Fall session class to participate but you do need to take at least one class during the 2012-2013 season. Students will need to audition to be part of the group. Auditions will be held in conjunction with the Snoopy auditions on August 17th and 18th at the CYT office, 6318 E. Broadway Blvd.
Rehearsals will be held around the regular Fall session classes and rehearsal schedules.
If your schedule is just too full to take on a regular class or show this fall, but you would love to “have your foot in CYT”, this is a great way to do that.
Contact Kathy Thuerbach at kthuerbach@cyttucson.org for additional information. If you want to sign up for an audition time (Friday 6-9 or Saturday 9-Noon), call Sandy Yaude at the office, 751-7510.
Come join the fun and be CYT’s good-will ambassadors to Tucson!

SECOND…..
We will be offering affordable dance classes for students ages 8-18 at the CYT studio starting in September on Wednesday and/or Thursday nights. You do not need to be enrolled in a regular CYT Fall class. Taking one of these dance classes will not make you eligible to audition for our Fall show, Snoopy.
Be watching the website, http://www.cyttucson.org, for more info or give us a call at 751-7510.

AND FINALLY…
If you do plan to register for a Fall class, the session begins in just one week! Northwest classes start on Monday, August 13th and Eastside on August 14th. Classes are filling up! Get online this week to save your spot in class.

We are hoping to keep all friends and supporters of CYT Tucson in the loop about our upcoming shows, events, programs and fundraising opportunities.

Trinity University Theatre- Announces 2012- 2013 Season

TRINITY THEATRE

is proud to announce 2012-2013 Season

Fall 2012

A BRIGHT ROOM CALLED DAY

by Tony Kuashner . Susanna Morrow, director

September 28-30 and October 3-6

In this dark comedy, an idealistic group of actors, writers, and filmmakers naively assume they can stop Hitler’s juggenaut through art and political action. As they slowly realize they are losing to the Nazis – and that their lives are at risk – the friends must choose the paths they’ll take: resistance, compromise, exile, or compliance. The play examines the nature of evil and the role of the artist as activist.

LA TEMPESTA

Adapted from Shakespeare’s THE TEMPEST

Roberto Prestigiacomo, director

Produced with Stieren Guest Artist Teatro del Drago

November 9-11 and 14-17

Created by the 2012-13 Stieren Guest Artist Teatro del Drago from Ravenna, Italy, and Roberto Prestigiacomo, LA TEMPESTA re-tells this magical story through the use of puppets, marionettes and shadow theatre. La Tempesta promises to be visually stunning, entertaining, and novelty never seen on the stages of San Antonio.

Spring 2013

ARCADIA

by Tom Stoppard . Stacey Connelly, director

February 15-17 and 20-23

On an idyllic country estate in Derbyshire, England, a 13 year-old genius and her tutor are about to make history with a brilliant mathematical proof, now lost to history. In the same location, two hundred years later, rival authors – a popular historian and a self-promoting academic – are in a mad, lusty, and hilarious race to uncover that secret. Considered Stoppard’s master work.

THE CRAZY LOCOMOTIVE

by Stanislaw Witkiewicz . Kyle Gillette, director

April 12-14 and 17-20

Set aboard the engine room of a train hurtling toward its destruction, THE CRAZY LOCOMOTIVE both parodies and embodies the artistic movement of futurism as well as Einstein’s theory of relativity and the melodramatic conventions of silent film. Provocative, absurd, and hilarious, the play asks big questions about the progress of industrial civilization and the fatal course of history.
