Tucson Arts Brigade Building Community Through the Arts – Dance Theatre Program

Tucson Arts Brigade Building Community Through the Arts – Dance Theatre Program
WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO SEE THIS…
As you may know, the Tucson Arts Brigade is one of the last remaining arts organizations devoted to Arts Education and Civic Engagement in Pima County. TAB is also building a national model for sustainable community development through the arts.
Through our “Beautify and Unify” Program, TAB is making Tucson a better place to live – taking the most peripheral and at-risk youth and adults off the streets and empowering them, through art workshops and projects that build community as they rebuild their lives and beautify neighborhoods. At the end of the day, we believe TAB is helping Tucsonans proudly reduce their own cycle of poverty – while advancing arts education and culture.
The Tucson Arts Brigade exists to bring Teaching and Community Artists into schools, community centers, and neighborhoods. The waiting list for services now stands at 83 schools, neighborhoods and community centers requesting Teaching Artists services for an estimated 12,000 people! Our vision is to say YES to every request for services.
Each year this number grows. Why? The state of arts education in Tucson is in shambles. Less than 6% of our youth are being exposed to the arts, while the majority is influenced primarily by violent and desensitizing media. Tagging and property damage have risen over 400% while support for arts education has all but evaporated, except in the places we work!
YOU are the solution! Every donation is a vote of confidence and tells us that we SHOULD continue to provide arts education services in our community.
Donations are tax-deductible – and can be dedicated to your project or program of choice:
•  ”Beautify & Unify” Program
•  Dance Theatre Program
•  PLACE Initiative
 •  The Water Festival
•  Together We Thrive Mural
•  Woods Library / Amphi Mural
•  TAB General Operating Support
Donations of $50+ can request a Tucson Arts Brigade t-shirt. Contributions of $500+ can have their family or company name on our new office’s plaque!

On behalf of everyone at TAB, we wish you a healthy, creative and happy holiday season!

YOUTH ART NOW ON SUN TRAN BUSSES!

The PLACE Project asked youth in the 29th Street Corridor to consider what is important to them in building a better community. What concerns, ideas, solutions do they have? What messages do youth want to send to their neighbors and the community at large? Each week we met at the Jim and Vicki Click Boys & Girls Club to look at, talk about, and create works of art.

ENJOY the art made by community kids that are now on the Sun Tran busses throughout Tucson. The 22-design poster series is available for sale to support the project and free for exhibitions at schools and community centers. Contact us for more info.

TUCSON ARTS BRIGADE- 9/11 DAY OF ARTS SERVICE: NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN-UP

TUCSON ARTS BRIGADE- 9/11 DAY OF ARTS SERVICE: NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN-UP

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2012 @ 1-5pm
29th Street & Columbus Blvd. Tucson, Arizona
Bring a broom, trash bags and gloves!

In the spirit of stewardship and in honoring the lives lost during 9/11, we invite you to take part in the 9/11 Day of Arts Service.

Earlier this year Tucson Arts Brigade has successfully completed a community mural project as part of TAB’s “Beautify and Unify” initiative to deter tagging and promote stewardship at the 29th Street Overpass. This project involved kids from the Jim & Vicki Click Boys & Girls Club and neighbors from the 4R Community Coalition, which includes the five neighborhoods of Julia Keen, Myers, Alvernon Heights, Roberts and Naylor.

Together, with your help on Sept. 9th, we will ensure that this area remains beautiful, and that at-risk kids and families who live there have comfort knowing that the community cares.

This project has been made possible by support from the 4R Coalition, Puffin Foundation, Pantano Christian Church, Pro-Neighborhoods and the Tucson Pima Arts Council / Kresge in Tucson.

Let’s “Beautify & Unify”!
