Fifth Annual Tucson Festival of Books March 9-10, 2013- Tucson Event Grows Each Year
275 exhibitors are expected during the 2013 book festival
450 authors, illustrators, agents and presenters participated in last year’s festival. A like number is expected this year
1,800 volunteers are needed for the two-day festival
120,000 the estimated number of people who attended last year’s event
$700,000 amount in proceeds that has gone to Southern Arizona literacy efforts since the festival’s launch
. When: 9 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. March 9-10, 2013
. Where: University of Arizona Campus. Attendance and parking are free.
. What: About 450 authors, book discussions, workshops and literary activities for the entire family.
. Sponsors: The UA and The Arizona Daily Star. The University of Arizona Medical Center is the presenting sponsor. Net proceeds with promote literacy in Southern Arizona through the Tucson Festival of Books Foundation, a nonprofit organization.

Broadway, Tucson, Arizona, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for fascinating speakers and learning the craft of writing mystery. $20 non-members and walk-ins includes lunch; $15 RSVP’d members, $10 for one session, morning or afternoon, no lunch. The Writers’ Community of Durham Region- Amprosia Prose Competition: Write 1,000 words & Win $1,000
Write 1,000 words, win $1,000. The contest welcomes fiction and non-fiction, accepting prose of all kinds.
The $1,000 first prize includes publication. The $400 second prize, $200 third place and selected honorable mentions will also be published.
There is also a cover design contest. The prize is $150, publication on the cover of the Amprosia anthology, plus a contributor’s copy. Entry fee is $5 Canadian.
Both contests close Nov. 1, 2012. Winners announced March 2013. Online submissions only. Sponsored by Christian Writers of the West (CWOW, Arizona affiliate of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW).
CATEGORIES: Contemporary Fiction, Contemporary Romance, Historical Fiction, Historical Romance, Mystery/Suspense?Thriller, Romantic Suspense, Women’s Fiction, Speculative Fiction, Young Adult
ENTRIES: 10 pages plus 100-word synopsis, required synopsis does not count in page total; formatting guidelines and contest rules available on contest website.
REWARDS: The opportunity for your entry to be read by published authors in the preliminary round and prominent agents and editors as a category finalist. Finalists and winner receive contest award certificate and are featured on our website.
GRAND PRIZE: 2013 ACFW Conference paid registration (member’s fee) minimum of 150 entries required to award grand prize.
CATEGORY PRIZE: $25 each category.
ELIGIBILITY: Open to all unpublished novelists. Published authors may enter if at least five years have passed since their last novel publication. Self-published and e-published manuscripts okay, if not printed or for sale in last five years.
