Society of Southwestern Authors- A Double Header for The February 17, 2013 Forum

Nathalie (Tika) Goldston, from Orange, New Jersey, and currently Prescott, Arizona, is the author of VALLEY OF SORROWS, 22 five-star reviews since publication by Smashwords in 2012 and 1,204 downloads to date.  Tika has loved reading and writing all her life but her interest fell into business.  After receiving a BS from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, and a second BS in Human resources Management, she became a mother of five, grandmother of fifteen and a writer.  It can be done, and she loves her second career.

Tika will discuss the following topics: being objective about your work; is your story marketable; accepting criticism, shelving your ego and to ePublish or not to ePublish that is the question?

Sara Jenlink, of the soon to be published KILLING ANGELS is a Kansas girl who excelled at writing, reading, stage and vocal performances.  She will team up with her longtime friend, Tika, after a fifteen-year career teaching middle school and adults, drama instruction and direction of 3-act productions.  It was only natural that Sara would spend years writing one-act plays for her students, four of which were published with Merriweather Publishing in Colorado.  Sara taught five years of College comp and five years of High School English.  She received a Liberal Arts Degree in Literature, a BS in secondary English Education, and a Masters in English.

Sara will be emphasizing discussions on rewriting, editing tools, and certain genre differences.

Both authors will complement and balance each other with knowledge they want to share with SSA writers on their mutual journey to success in the publishing world.

The Society of Southwestern Authors- Hosts Novelist/Ghostwriter Dan Baldwin at November 18, 2012 Forum

The Society of Southwestern Authors- Hosts Novelist/Ghostwriter Dan Baldwin at November 18, 2012 Forum

Writer & Artist On the Coffee Table

Novelist/Ghostwriter and SSA member Dan Baldwin will address the November 18, 2012 meeting in Tucson on the topic of how writers should and should not work with artists.

The presentation is based on PADRE AND THE POOCH, a coffee table book featuring full-color paintings by fine artist Dave Ivey, from Louisiana. Each image is accompanied by Badwin’s prose commenting or reflecting on the painting. Baldwin says, “We don’t have a central theme other than the power and beauty that is Arizona. A given image may be accompanied by a historical report, a contemporary reflection, a fictional short story, or even an except from one of my novels.”

Ivey, who is a nationally recognized artist, and Baldwin have worked together on numerous award-winning advertising projects, but this the their first book together.

Baldwin plans on presenting examples of writing and the illustrations that accompany that writing or, as his partner notes, examples of the illustrations and the writing that accompanies them.

Baldwin is the author of more than 40 ghostwritten and co-written nonfiction books. He is also the author of the CALDERA series of westerns, TRAPP CANYON, another Western, and the soon-to-be-published crime-thriller SPARKY AND THE KING. Two mysteries, DESECRATION and HERESY will also be released soon.

Ivey’s work can be found at http://www.daveivey.com. Baldwin’s websites are http://www.danbaldwin.biz &www.forknightspress.com.

Our venue is at the InnSuites at I-10 and St. Mary’s. We will start at 11 am and the cost will $25 with registration ($30 at the door). Call in your reservations at 520-546-9382 or e-mail ssabrunches@gmail.com by Wednesday, November 14.
